Born:1879 Children: John Charles Patrick Joseph Gye (1914) Robert Henry Stanley Batholemew Gye (1916) Died: 12 July 1919 in East Melbourne (possibly at the Mercy Hospital) Catherine McDonald, known to everyone as Kate, was the daughter of Irish immigrants who came to Australia and settled in the Little Lon' area of Melbourne at 32 Cumberland Place. Kate was living with her mother at Cumberland Place when she married the family's boarder, Robert (Wong) Gye. She was 33 when they married and had 2 children in the next three years. She died in 1919 at the age of 40, possibly as the result of a botched abortion, and was buried at the Coburg Cemetery. She and Robert would be reunited in the grave due to a shortage of cemetery plots during the Second World War, when Robert died.
